Obstetrics Suite | MidMichigan Medical Center–Gratiot

Location: Alma, Michigan

Project Area: 16,000 SF

Year Completed: 2018

The previous obstetrics suite was on the second floor of the main hospital and difficult to find as it was accessed via a set of elevators located in the center of the building. Additionally, the room arrangements and requirements needed to be adjusted to enable staff to provide the level of care consistent with the MidMichigan Medical Center—Gratiot brand and mission.

Through a collaborative master planning initiative at MidMichigan Medical Center—Gratiot, the hospital identified the obstetrics suite as a priority renovation project in order to:

  • Increase patient privacy
  • Move to the LDRP model of care for the entire suite
  • Improve staff efficiencies and sightlines in the suite
  • Update operating room (OR) for C-sections

The updated obstetrics (OB) suite was moved to the third floor of the tower to improve access to care and provide patients with a caring, comfortable, and family-centered place to give birth. The improved OB suite includes private triage rooms, birthing suites and post-partum recovery rooms with private bathrooms, a state-of-the-art OR for C-sections, a modern nursery with a high-tech security system, and many in-room amenities such as a sleeping couch for the mother’s support person and mini-refrigerators for patients to keep their favorite refreshments during their stay.
