Family Health Center (FHC) is a federally qualified health center designated by the government to provide care to underserved populations in Kalamazoo County. Their South Clinic was designed to complement their existing clinic on the north side.
The 3-story, 50,000 SF clinic is located on 2.5 acres on Alcott Street. The facades incorporate metal panels, aluminum and glass curtaining, brick, and limestone with intersecting sloping forms in an innovative and contemporary composition. The interior utilizes sophisticated materials, warm colors, and abundant natural light to create a friendly, caring, and respectful healing environment.
The lower level houses occupational and physical therapy offices. This area also provides administrative offices, storage, staff locker rooms, a staff lounge, and conference room.
The first floor of the clinic provides a 25 seat, dental clinic, offices, reception/registration, and a pharmacy. The dental suite also has space for a future dental lab. The waiting areas at the north (pharmacy) and south (dental clinic) ends of the building provide views of the surrounding area and include a three-story atrium with geometric lighting and ample, modern seating with a contemporary aesthetic.
The second floor is home to a family health clinic, including pediatrics, with 24 exam rooms, central registration and contemporary waiting areas, lab collection, and offices. The waiting areas on this floor overlook the atrium on the first floor.
The third story is unfinished but has been designated as space available for future growth of the medical clinic and has been designed to accommodate 24 additional exam rooms.
Finally, an outdoor fitness park has been planned for the adjacent property. The free park will be accessible 24-hours a day and planned improvements to the property include a rubberized surface, fitness machines, play structure and basketball court.
“Eckert Wordell has been an amazing partner in our Alcott venture. They are patient, detail-oriented, accommodating, superbly professional, talented, and a real pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them. Additionally, using the same architectural team for both our projects would ensure cooperation, efficiency, and cohesion.”
