This tenant fit-out project established new regional headquarters for Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI), the largest ophthalmology practice in the United States. The project brought together corporate offices, refractive services, a clinic, and an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) that had all been housed in separate buildings on remote sites.
Programming requirements included an ASC with six operating rooms, a LASIK suite, a multi-specialty eye clinic, administrative services, support spaces for each function, and room for expansion. Because of the sheer scale of the practice and range of services offered, the key factor to the success of this project was careful layout work in the planning stages to guarantee that the facility would be both easily navigable and user-friendly, with a warm and personable atmosphere for patients and staff alike.
The space chosen for the project was a large, highly visible brick building situated on a pleasant green space within an established development. The structure had an existing three-story glass atrium connecting all of the floors, creating exceptionally nice entry lobbies to the clinic and ASC. The existing gardens and fountains in the entry space were refreshed for new use. Finishes throughout were updated with warm contemporary tones and wood accents that continued the corporate palette established for satellite offices, thereby strengthening the sense of brand identity for the practice.
